🖤Navigating emotions from the past📦

A recent trip back to Taiwan, where I lived and worked for ten years after graduating from college has resurfaced many past emotions in me that I thought had already been acknowledged and worked through. It has been uncomfortable, challenging, and confusing, but I see this as an opportunity for deep healing and growth, albeit the extreme discomfort. ❤️‍🩹🦋

Navigating our emotions is an ongoing process throughout our lives. Often, we have experiences or events in our past that we thought were long gone, but then suddenly resurface in our present, making us feel like we're back in that moment again. This can be triggered by something as simple as a smell, a song, a place, or even a person. These emotions can be overwhelming, confusing and exhausting. 🌀🤍

One thing we can do first towards navigating these old emotions is to acknowledge their presence, recognizing that these emotions are resurfacing for a reason and that it's okay to feel them. Once we have acknowledged our emotions, it is a great help to find a safe place where we can express them. Whether it's through writing in a journal, talking with a trusted friend or seeking professional help, it's important to release and let go of these old emotions. 🎐🍃

It is also important to try to focus on the positive things happening in your life right currently. Practice gratitude by listing off things you are thankful for each day. This will help shift your mindset and allow you to see the good in your life. 🌦️🌈

Another helpful tool is to practice self-compassion. Be kind and patient with yourself as you navigate these emotions. Remind yourself that it's okay to feel overwhelmed and that you're doing the best you can. 🌹🤍

Finally, use this experience as an opportunity for growth and learning. What can you learn from these old emotions? Is there something you can do differently moving forward? Use this as a chance to reflect and take action for your future well-being.🕊️🪷

Navigating old emotions from the past is not an easy task, as it involves honest conversation with your inner self, which may uncover some shadows. But with self-awareness, self-care, and self-compassion, it is possible to properly acknowledge them and release what no longer serves you or find a new method to move forward. 🍀☀️

I am still in the process of working through some of my personal old emotions, but one thing I have learned is that it truly is up to ourselves how we want to experience life, no matter where we are in the world. That being said, it is okay to allow yourself space to grieve- whether that be for a past version of yourself, or the loss of someone, place, or circumstance that made a significant impact on your life. 💛🦋

As I’m writing this to you all, I am simultaneously reminding myself of these things as I go through the process of navigating these old emotions. If you are going through something similar, or has experienced this, know that you are not alone, and that with kindness, grace, and honesty, these past emotions can be integrated and released, creating more room for new goodness to come into your life. ☀️🌷
